A politician has called for action following an incident where a pedestrian was seriously injured on the A9.
Liz Smith made her comments after the woman was taken to Ninewells hospital with a serious injury to her left leg on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old woman was struck by a black Range Rover after she parked her blue Toyota Aygo in a lay-by on the northbound A9 near Auchterarder in Perthshire at around 11.30.
It is understood she underwent surgery on Wednesday but her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Ms Smith said roads operator BEAR Scotland needs to review safety measures in the area, which was also the scene of a 2011 accident in which a 16-year-old girl was killed.
She said: “This is just another serious accident on the notorious A9, which demonstrates, yet again, just how urgent it is to improve safety measures.
“Not much time has elapsed since the tragic death of the teenager who was killed near this same spot and questions are clearly being asked if additional road safety measures at this section need to be investigated.”
BEAR Scotland declined to comment but a spokeswoman for Traffic Scotland said: “The police investigation to establish what happened is ongoing and it is not appropriate for us to speculate on the causes whilst this is under way.
“We shall be meeting police and our road operating company to obtain more detailed information as part of that inquiry.”
Ed Morrow, campaigns officer for road safety charity Brake, said: “Brake advises drivers to stay well under the speed limit and slow down for bends and brows to give the best chance of avoiding hazards, including stopped vehicles.”
