Gary Naysmith expected to be named new East Fife boss

Gary Naysmith is expected to be handed the East Fife manager's job on a permanent basis.

East Fife are expected to confirm their new management team at a press conference on Wednesday morning.

Although the Methil club have remained tight-lipped on who will succeed Willie Aitchison, who resigned last month after a string of poor results, caretaker manager Gary Naysmith has won back-to-back league games since taking charge and looks set to be handed the job on a permanent basis.

The 35-year-old has been working alongside former Dundee United boss Paul Hegarty, who has been helping out on a voluntary basis up until now, and coach Dougie Anderson, who was brought to Bayview by Aitchison several weeks ago.

The trio have masterminded league wins over Stenhousemuir and Airdrieonians in the last fortnight.

Naysmith has been interviewed for the position by chairman Lee Murray and the former Scotland defender admitted his audition fshould stand him in good stead.

“It couldn’t have gone any better really,” he conceded.

“Six points, three goals away from home against Airdrie and a clean sheet against Stenhousemuir, so here’s hoping. I think I’ve got a far better chance than I did two weeks ago.

“I’ve had my interview and I think something will get announced in the next few days. But in terms of what the players have done for whoever gets the job, they are going to be very fortunate.

“They are a smashing bunch of lads and they give you everything. Sometimes they are a little bit nave out on the pitch but it’s things you can coach them they are a smashing group of lads to take.”

The Fifers are looking to continue the feel-good factor around the club at the moment and hope they can build on whatever is announced when they host struggling Brechin City on Saturday.

The Methil club’s board has decided to cut admission prices to just £10 in a bid to attract a bumper pre-Christmas crowd, who could cheer on the players to what would be a third straight victory.

The club has also announced a three-game cut-price package for the games against Forfar on January 25, Airdrieonians on February 22, and Rangers on March 1, and have put a half season ticket on sale.

Prices for those are £90 for adults, £68 for concessions, £40 for children, £100 for parent and child, and £110 for parent and two children.
