If ever proof were needed that you can’t take your father anywhere then spare a thought for three Fife youngsters who were upstaged during a weekend charity trek.

Seven-year-old Melissa, eight-year-old David-Lee and Megan Agnew, 10, from Dunfermline completed the Three Bridges Challenge while accompanied by their father, Lee who was dressed as a fairy.

The youngsters and fairy Lee ran, walked and cycled across the Tay, Forth and Kincardine crossings to raise money for learning disabilities charity Cornerstone.

To encourage the youngsters to raise as much money as possible, Lee agreed to forfeit his dignity and carry out the challenge in fancy dress if the trio topped their £200 fundraising target.

Speaking about the fundraiser, he said that everybody enjoyed the experience and that he was more than happy to dress up in the name of charity.

“It was fantastic,” said the 32-year-old driving instructor.

“I did kid on that I had forgotten the outfit but they weren’t having any of it. They’ll be ready to take The Courier into class on Monday and show the picture to their friends and teachers.”

In total, Melissa, David-Lee and Megan raised in the region of £500 to help their mother Claire, who works as a team leader for Cornerstone.

She has signed herself up for the Climb Kili for Cornerstone charity expedition in October 2014, which will see her scaling Mount Kilimanjaro the world’s tallest freestanding mountain along with a group of 27 others to raise more funds.

Lee added: “The kids got great encouragement from drivers beeping their horns they really enjoyed it all.

“The only thing we got wrong was the weather, as it was a bit windy on the Forth Road Bridge.”

Commenting on her children’s efforts, mother Claire added: “I am so proud of my kids for taking this on and helping to raise money for Cornerstone.

“When I told them about my fundraising challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, they were keen to set their own goal and we came up with the Three Bridges Challenge.”
