Duncan Miller, a councillor in Dundee for 30 years, has died at the age of 93.
Mr Miller, a prominent figure in Broughty Ferry, was convener of water services on the former Tayside Regional Council.
A Conservative, he was also a member of the old Dundee Corporation and was a baillie and a Justice of the Peace in the city.
Mr Miller trained as an architect, and on the outbreak of war joined the merchant navy after training as a wireless operator with Marconi.
He served on many ships between 1940 and 1946 and three of the vessels were hit by torpedoes from enemy submarines.
In 1946 he married his first wife, Aileen Berry, and they had six children.
Mrs Miller died weeks after the birth of youngest son Andrew in 1963.
By then Mr Miller had become a member of the corporation and immersed in public as well as business life through his grandfather’s property agency, James Miller & Son.
He was also an elder of St Aidan’s Church in Broughty Ferry, a bonnetmaker in the Nine Incorporated Trades and a member of the Broughty Ferry Club.
In 1964 he married Roma Ogilvie, and the couple had a daughter.
He is survived by his four sons and three daughters, a stepson and stepdaughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His funeral takes place at Dundee Crematorium on Monday.
