One of Dundee’s most famous shops gave passers-by some free offers yesterday.
Music shop Groucho’s on Nethergate decided to go one better than a January sale by letting people have unwanted items for free.
The collection of free goods included books, magazines, furniture and even free shoes.
Owner Alastair Brodie posted a message on Facebook alerting followers to the giveaway.
It said: “After a big clear-out yesterday there’s a couple of tables of free stuff ouside Groucho’s today.
“Lots of books, Record Collector magazines, comfy chairs, shoes etc. Come along and help yourself.”
Among the items up for grabs were three copies of a Madonna biography by Andrew Morton, famous for his book on Princess Diana.
There were also books on acts ranging from Will Young to Lady in Red singer Chris de Burgh being given away.
Mr Brodie said: “We just had a clear-out to clear some space.
“It is just things that we have accumulated too many of, so we are giving them to customers.
“You don’t really ever get anything for nothing so instead of a foodbank this is like a book bank, for people that still read anyway.”
Mr Brodie, better known as Breeks, said the giveaway had sparked plenty of interest and even brought more customers into the store.
Customer Malcolm Robertson picked up a number of back issues of Record Collector magazine.
He said: “I come into Grouchos quite a lot anyway as I am a record collector anyway.”
The Nethergate record store was opened in 1976 and has grown into a Dundee institution.
