A Perthshire community gathered to celebrate its special link to Major Tim Peake.
Britain’s first European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut is a familiar figure to many people in Comrie through his family.
His in-laws John and Maddy King, who are from the village, were among the privileged few to have travelled to Kazakhstan to see him blast into space.
Major Peake is married to their daughter Rebecca a former Morrison’s Academy pupil and their friends organised an event for local people to gather to share the experience.
His friend Doug Smart, whose wife Laura was at school with Rebecca, said the space mission had “really captured the imagination” of Comrie folk and it was decided to hold a party in the White Church.
The cinema club lent their large screen for the occasion and the docking at the International Space Station was broadcast for all to see.
“It is not just for people who know him, it is a very special thing,” said Mr Smart of the gathering.
“There are not many British astronauts, it will be a once in a lifetime event for a lot of us.”
Mr Smart said that when it first emerged that his friend was in the running for a trip to space, he thought it was “a wind-up”.
“Then I realised if anyone was going to do it, Tim’s the guy,” he said.
“It’s cool, not everyone knows a spaceman.”
