Plans to build a business park on the outskirts of Buckhaven have been formally approved by councillors.
Members of Fife Council’s central planning committee on Wednesday approved proposals to develop 16 hectares of land to the west of the town, which includes the site of the former Diosynth chemical plant.
The decision would appear to end any debate over the future of the site, which has been the subject of several planning applications in recent years.
Councillors unanimously approved the project, saying it could play a crucial role in regenerating Buckhaven.
Committee chairman Tom Adams said: “I have been waiting for four-and-a-half years for this.
“When I hear of these things, I want them to happen immediately and it is great to see this piece of the jigsaw finally fall into position.
“This is crucial to the energy park so I am very pleased that this has come before us.”
One letter of objection over the proposal had been received relating to early-morning and late-night noise.
This is to be addressed as part of the planning approval, which was granted subject to 15 conditions, including the construction of road infrastructure capable of handling increased levels of traffic.
