Tributes have been paid to loyal Arbroath FC supporter John Woodward who has died.
For many years John displayed the 50/50 raffle board at half time and was a familiar sight to everyone attending Gayfield.
He would also sweep up the tunnel area after the players left the pitch.
Arbroath FC chairman John Christison said: “He was a loyal supporter of the club and I was very sorry to hear of his passing.
“He also used to go and collect the ball whenever it went out of the ground we never lost a ball thanks to John.”
John’s niece and main carer Wendy Taylor said she had been overwhelmed by the reaction from the community in Arbroath after the club put a tribute online.
She said: “It meant so very much to us that his loyalties and commitment to the club were appreciated over the years.
“He lived for his football. Helping out at Gayfield kept him independent, always gave him a purpose and kept him fit.
“The family has been touched over the oh so many kind words.
“He truly was a character – we are struggling to get our heads round not seeing him daily.
“It was a privilege to be a part of John’s life. He was always so cheery and saw the good in everyone.”
A service will be held at Friockheim Crematorium on Wednesday January 27 at 2.30pm.
