A Fife woman celebrated her sister-in-law’s £500,000 lottery win so much she was almost six times the drink-drive limit the next day.
Angela Black’s son was a passenger in her car and was so alarmed by her driving he flagged down the police.
The night before, Black had been partying with family members following the lottery windfall.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Thursday, Black, 51, of Dickson Court, Lochgelly, admitted driving with excess alcohol on September 25 in Broad Street, Cowdenbeath.
Her reading was 120 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath the legal limit is 22 microgrammes.
Depute fiscal Kyrsten Buist said: “On September 24, the accused was at her sister-in-law’s party as she’d had a £500,000 lottery win. A significant amount of alcohol was consumed.”
The following day, Black, a production operator, contacted her son to say she would pick him up to go to the shops.
However, as Black drove with him into Cowdenbeath her son became worried about her state.
“He was of the view that she was still intoxicated from the previous night,” said Ms Buist.
“This was at 12.30 in the afternoon but he was concerned at how she was driving and asked her to pull over, which she did.
“By chance, he was able to flag down passing police officers. They formed the opinion that she was heavily under the influence of alcohol,” she added.
Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said: “Mrs Black tells me that she had absolutely no comprehension that she’d consumed alcohol to the extent that would give that reading.
“That day she took painkillers washed down with some drink which was left in a glass but that was all. She’s a first offender and at her age is very embarrassed to be appearing before the court.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Black £1,200 and imposed a two-year ban.
