Two bungling housebreakers caught red-handed had to exit via a living room window after becoming locked inside the house they had broken into.
Del Banks, 27, and Liam Pringle, 28, both prisoners in Perth Prison, were caught by police as they tried to rob the semi-detached home in the Craigie area of Perth.
The two men had been spotted by neighbours entering the Cavendish Avenue house via the bathroom window, after climbing on to a nearby roof.
However, after police attended the scene, the pair could not find a way to open the front door and had to climb through the living room window to exit the house.
Depute fiscal Susan Ruta told Perth Sheriff Court that officers first spotted Pringle within the kitchen of the house, after which he ran into another area of the property.
A cordon was placed around the house and, after the owner could not be contacted, police attempted to force the front door by smashing one of the door panels.
Mrs Ruta said: “When police reached in through the panel there was no unlocking mechanism and no key inside the door.
“A few minutes later the accused Pringle came to the door and indicated he would leave.
“However, he couldn’t as he was unable to unlock the door from the inside.”
Banks also came to the door and, after initially hiding his face, revealed himself to police officers.
Mrs Ruta continued: “Around 1.30pm both accused exited the locus via a living room window and surrendered themselves to police.”
Sheriff William Wood heard that both accused had issues with drugs and broke into the house in an attempt to raise money to feed their habits.
Bank and Pringle admitted that on January 29 they broke into the property at Cavendish Avenue, Perth, with intent to steal.
Sheriff Wood deferred sentence until next month for reports. Both accused were remanded in custody.
