British Transport Police is appealing for information after a Fife woman was assaulted on a train earlier this week.
The woman was hit by a can as the train was travelling between Edinburgh and Dalmeny on Saturday October 3.
The 53-year-old woman had boarded the front carriage of the 9.48pm Edinburgh Waverley to Perth service at Haymarket with her 28-year-old daughter.
But shortly before the train reached Dalmeny station a man assaulted her by hitting her with a can.
She sustained an injury to her face but did not need hospital treatment.
The man is described as being aged in his mid 30s, about 5ft 8in tall with brown hair and a beard.
He was wearing dark rimmed glasses and a brown jacket.
The man got off the train, in the company of another man, at Dalmeny on the south side of the Forth Bridge.
Constable David Ferguson is appealing for anyone who was on the busy train and has information which can help trace the man responsible to contact BTP on 0800 405040 or by texting 61016.
Information can also be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
