Maisie Peters has become the youngest female British artist in nine years to score a number one album, according to the Official Charts Company.
The 23-year-old singer’s record, The Good Witch, follows her 2021 debut release You Signed Up For This, which peaked at number two in the charts.
Speaking to the Official Charts Company, Peters said: “This is my Official Charts number one award for my album The Good Witch and it’s just the craziest, it’s coolest thing.
“I’m so happy, especially for myself and for my fans and everyone I work with; my band and my crew and my manager and my label.
“Also all of the fans, we’ve all been on this journey together for the longest time and this album really felt like an album for all of us.
“This number one is for all of us, too, so thank you so much.”
West Sussex-born singer-songwriter Peters made her debut at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage this year and her performance coincided with the release of her new album.
She is signed to Ed Sheeran’s label, Gingerbread Man Records.
Other Glastonbury performers Lewis Capaldi, Arctic Monkeys, Sir Elton John and Lana Del Rey saw an uplift in this week’s albums chart, following the festival.
Sir Elton’s Greatest hits compilation Diamonds has soared to the number two position, following his Sunday Pyramid Stage headline slot.
Meanwhile, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent by Scottish singer Capaldi has climbed 13 places to number three.
Shortly after his Glastonbury set, Capaldi announced that he would be taking a break from live performances as he said he is still learning to adjust to the impact of his Tourette’s syndrome.
A social media statement Capaldi posted read: “The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.”
In at number four this week is Harry’s House by Harry Styles, which was released last year.
Tom Grennan’s album What If And Maybes is in at number five, having dropped from the number one position.
Del Rey’s debut album Born To Die moved 14 places to number 29 while her other records saw re-entries into the top 100.
Over on the official singles chart, rappers Dave and Central Cee have held onto the top spot with their single Sprinter, which has been number one for four consecutive weeks.
The number two spot is held by London-born rapper J Hus and Canadian rapper Drake with Who Told You, whilst Miracle by Scottish DJ Calvin Harris and singer Ellie Goulding remains at number three.
The song Giving Me by Irish singer Jazzy takes the number four spot and the single Dancing Is Healing, which is a collaboration between Rudimental, Charlotte Plank and Vibe Chemistry, is in at number five.
