A Dundee pensioner pleaded with authorities to finally deal with the flooding incidents that have frequently blighted Dens Road over the years.
Norman Ewing, 71, was effectively trapped in his own home during the worst of Friday’s weather as water blocked the exit to his block of flats and once more forced the road to be closed.
Part of the road, near to the junction with Isla Street, also collapsed due to the volume of water, with workmen arriving to cordon off the area affected by subsidence ahead of repair work being carried out.
Flooding on Dens Road is not a new problem and Mr Ewing is growing tired of the disruption caused to residents’ lives when torrential rain hits the city.
“That’s the second time in a fortnight that the road’s been flooded and something needs to be done,” he said.
“It always gets blamed on the Dens Burn under the road but there has to be some action that can be taken to stop this from happening.
“I’ve lived here for 30-odd years and it never used to happen.
“The sewers near Provost Road collapsed about 15 to 20 years ago and they were rebuilt but since then the road nearly always floods when it rains.
“If the drains aren’t kept clear then the sewers build up.
“People don’t seem to bother they just say it only happens when it rains but it’s been a problem here for about 20 years.”
A spokesman for Scottish Water said the issues were caused by a blocked drain on Dens Road.
“The heavy rainfall earlier today has caused localised flash flooding across Scotland and our teams are out clearing blocked drains as soon as they can,” he added.
“We want to thank local residents and commuters for their patience and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
