A Dundee yoga teacher has decided to put his feet up after running classes for the past 34 years.
Angus Lockhart, 68, has decided it is time for him to retire from teaching.
He started his yoga group in the Dundee YMCA in 1979 before it moved to the Methodist Church on Marketgait.
He said: “It is a big break for me after all these years. At one time I had 30 people in my class but now it is between 15 to 20 people.
“Some people have been coming for years and years. One woman in my class has been coming for 20 years and one or two members of my class have gone on to become yoga teachers themselves.”
Angus first started practising yoga at home in 1972 after seeing it on TV and he went on to learn about the philosophy behind it.
He said: “What initially drew my attention to yoga was that I’m not interested in sport. I saw yoga as a way to stay fit and healthy without building muscles.
“I just did it once a week as a hobby more than anything.”
As he got more involved he joined a class at the YMCA. However, he ended up teaching the class quite by accident one day.
He said: “One day the teacher didn’t turn up. He was supposed to be coming across from St Andrews but his scooter was broken, so I just took over.”
The teacher never came back to the class so Angus decided to get certified as a yoga teacher and carried on leading the group.
His love of yoga saw him get heavily involved in the Tayside Yoga Association as well as Yoga Scotland.
Angus had such a passion for yoga he found he was even roped into doing a class for a group of people staying at the same hotel as him during a trip to Yugoslavia.
Even now that he has stopped teaching, Angus says he will continue to do yoga for pleasure.
