A man has been charged with causing the death of a baby following a Mearns car crash.
Chavdar Ivanov, 30, from Montrose, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in connection with the crash on the A937 Laurencekirk to Montrose Road near Marykirk in November 2013.
A 27-year-old pregnant woman, a passenger in one of the cars, was taken to hospital following the crash.
She required an emergency procedure at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the crash to deliver her baby, which did not survive the trauma.
The woman is originally from Bulgaria but had relocated to Aberdeenshire. It is understood she lives in the Gourdon area.
Mr Ivanov appeared in private in front of Sheriff Kenneth Stewart, making no plea or declaration.
His case was continued for further examination and he was released on bail.
