The mortar was discovered by Scottish Natural Heritage reserve staff in the south of Tentsmuir Forest. The live bomb had been exposed on the established dunes in the SNH-owned reserve. Knowing there was a history of devices being discovered in the area, the staff called the police. Bomb disposal experts from Edinburgh confirmed it was a live mortar bomb and carried out a controlled explosion. No one was hurt.
