The site of a former Travellers’ camp has become a target for fly-tippers in Dundee.
The group quit the site at Dundee Ice Arena at Camperdown Leisure Park last week. Mounds of rubbish were left at the scene after the camp, including six caravans and several cars, moved on.
Now the manager of Dundee Ice Arena said he fears the rubbish is attracting fly-tippers after a sofa appeared among the debris overnight.
Alex Cram said: “The Travellers went away last week and a huge pile of rubbish has been left.
“I took a walk over to look at it and it was revolting. The crows have been at the bags of rubbish and they’ve been opened up.
“There were dirty nappies and other refuse. There are old clothes and there are still a lot of tree cuttings from the last time.”
The latest Traveller group appeared days after the ground was cleared of debris left by a previous camp. Workers had moved in to clear the site of building materials, rubbish, and garden waste.
Mr Cram added: “The guy was in the process of cleaning up and he was almost halfway through when the Travellers arrived at the beginning of the month.”
The state of the area around the ice arena has provoked users to question staff about the mess. He said the piece of land is owned by Vico Properties but they could not be contacted by himself nor Dundee City Council.
The previous work was carried out by Camperdown Leisure Park’s own factor in a bid to make the park presentable.
