A council worker was caught driving at more than twice the legal alcohol limit after deciding to move his car just 60 metres.
Liam Watson, of Hawarden Terrace, Perth, admitted using his car on Hillend Road with 80 mics of alcohol on his breath. The legal limit is 35.
At Perth Sheriff Court, depute fiscal Stuart Richardson said Watson, 31, was caught in the early hours of July 30.
He said: “At about 3.30am on the Sunday Mr Watson was initially approached by another motorist. He approached Mr Watson as his car was stationary and he seemed to be having some problems with it.
“As soon as the other motorist got to him, he smelled alcohol and took the keys from Mr Watson to stop him driving any further.”
The police were called and normal drink-driving procedures were carried out.
Watson’s solicitor John Adams said his client was “very embarrassed” about appearing in court.
He said: “He accepts it was a silly decision to drive. He was taking the car home from a relative’s a distance of 60 metres. It was a silly decision and he will have to face the consequences.”
Sheriff Mungo Bovey banned Watson from the road for 16 months and handed him a £300 fine.
However, the sheriff offered to cut Watson’s driving ban by three months if he successfully completes a drink-driving awareness course.
