A car which burst into flames next to a building in Dundee’s Riverside Drive prompted several 999 calls.
The severe blaze took hold of the vehicle at 9.54pm outside the Compass House and fire crews extinguished the fire within five minutes using a hose reel jet.
Watch manager Blair Fletcher, who was in charge of the fire crew on scene, said: “The car was consumed by the fire by the time we got there and was completely destroyed once the fire was out.
“It was quite near a prominent roundabout so it was quite a show for passersby,” he said.
He said early investigations and a review of CCTV in the area led him to believe the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the engine which had spread.
He said: “The car was parked in a car park next to the building.
“When the driver came back from being away for about 20 minutes he seemed to notice the smell of burning and there was a little bit of smoke coming out of the passenger door.
“It very quickly developed into quite a severe fire,” he said.
“It was about eight to 10 feet away from the glass fronted building and our concern was that it could spread to the building but thankfully we were able to get it under control within a few minutes.”
