Saline would roll out the red carpet if only it had one for its new lady of the manor.
Banish the Brits. It’s all over for the Oscars. The west Fife village is asking the artist formerly known as Cheryl Cole to come open its annual arts extravaganza.
Recently it was rumoured that the former Girls Aloud star had been gifted a square foot of Scottish land by Simon Cowell. The small area of ground, which comes with its own title, sits atop Bandrum Ridge.
Below nestles the picturesque village of Saline, which for many years has been known as the Paradise of Fife.
So now an invitation has been forwarded to Lady Cheryl, inviting her to open next April’s West Fife Villages Exhibition of Art, Photography and Craft.
She would be following in the footsteps of the local minister if she accepts.
Exhibition manager and chairman of the community council, John Crane, said: “When one is elevated to the aristocracy, it is only right that one should accept responsibilities of this nature in the area of one’s tenure.
“We won’t exactly tug our forelocks but we will treat her with due respect.
“We cannot really afford to pay her expenses, such as her first-class airfare from LA, but we are prepared to pick her up from Dunfermline railway station or even Edinburgh Airport.
“We can also provide a free light lunch in the community centre organised by the ladies of the Saline Church guild.”
Meanwhile Gareth Turner, the president of the Saline and District Horticultural Society and chairman of the Saline and Steelend Community Development Trust, added: “We would certainly roll out the red carpet for Lady Cheryl, if we had one.”
