Driver dies as car collides with skip lorry in Fife

A man has died after the car he was driving collided with a skip lorry.
The accident occurred on the B981 between Lochgelly and Cardenden on Thursday afternoon. The victim was travelling alone in a Vauxhall Astra when the tragedy occurred at the bottom of the Liza Brae.
His identity was not revealed, but he was said to be local. The driver of the Scania lorry, which careered down an embankment, escaped serious injury.
A spokesman for Police Scotland Fife Division said: “We were called to this collision around 2.40pm and on arrival discovered that a skip lorry had collided with a Vauxhall Astra being driven by a local man and had then gone down an embankment.
“All the emergency services attended and the driver of the Astra was declared dead at the scene.
“Details of the man who died will not be available until relatives have been informed and they have given their permission for this to be released.”
The road was closed for several hours as emergency services dealt with the incident and extensive accident investigations were conducted by police.
