The family of a man who died after the car he was driving was in collision with a skip lorry paid tribute to a “loving and caring person”.

John Dempster died in the accident which happened on the B981 between Lochgelly and Cardenden last Thursday. The victim was travelling alone in a Vauxhall Astra when tragedy struck at the bottom of Liza Brae.

The driver of the Scania lorry, which careered down an embankment, escaped serious injury.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, Mr Dempster’s family said: “To all who knew him, John was a loving, caring person.

“Close to his family and friends, he was loved by them all. Of huge comfort to the family has been the way the community has come together and openly expressed their sorrow and given their support.

“John will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would appreciate respect for their privacy at this difficult time.”

John, known as Rev, was the only son of Mig and Johnny Dempster, and was brother to Caroline, fianc of Sarah Bett and the father of Leo.

The road was closed for several hours as emergency services dealt with the accident and extensive accident investigations were conducted by police.

The cause of the collision was unknown but Lochgelly and Cardenden councillor Ian Chisholm said last week there were concerns about the safety of the road, which has sweeping bends and is well used by heavy-goods vehicles.
