A drink-driver was seen staggering through a supermarket eating food in the early hours of Saturday morning, shortly before getting into his car and attempting to drive.
Joseph McBrearty Boag, 64, St Giles Terrace, apologised to staff in the store, telling them: “I never normally do this but I’m *******,” before leaving the store and heading towards his car.
Boag admitted on August 10, at Tesco South Road car park, he drove while almost three times the legal limit (92 mics).
Sheriff McGowan deferred sentence until September 10 for reports, telling Boag he wanted to find out if there was “more to this than meets the eye.” He was granted bail.
Depute fiscal Lynne Mannion told the court Boag was seen by staff to be holding a set of car keys as he staggered about the aisles.
“Staff saw him leaving the store and he was seen going towards the car,” she said.
Mrs Mannion said a staff member followed him and saw him in the driving seat of the car. Solicitor Doug McConnell said his client had one previous conviction for drink driving in 2008.
He said his client had several bereavements in his family which had led to him drinking and when a close friend passed away on Friday he went to the pub and drank to excess.
