St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has stressed that the job is only half done as his players prepare for one of the biggest nights in the club’s recent history.
Saints will try to build on their magnificent 1-0 win gained in Norway when Trondheim visit McDiarmid Park on Thursday for the return leg of their Europa League second qualifying round clash.
After watching his team battle out a 1-1 friendly draw with Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday, Wright, who confirmed he was trying to re-sign midfielder Murray Davidson, warned: “We have to realise that it is a two-legged tie we are in and not a one-off game.
“The credit we have been given and the accolades we have received have been deserved for that one game but it is only one game of two.
“We have another big test and we have to get through it if we can,” said Wright. “The pleasing thing is that we have no new injuries and I was happy enough with our performance today.
“We will have a rest day tomorrow and then start work on Tuesday, continue on Wednesday and then be ready for Thursday.”
Saints took the lead through Stevie May before the Dark Blues levelled thanks to Carlo Monti. As well as scoring, May missed a second-half penalty.
It was another encouraging pre-season result for Dundee and assistant boss Ray Farningham, taking over the post-match duties from John Brown, was satisfied.
“That was a step up for us with St Johnstone being a Premier side,” he said. “It was a good workout and there were some good performances.
“There are also some weaknesses, though, and we will be working on them before the big kick-off.”
