People power has won, according to the owners of a number of businesses in Crail who revealed they had persuaded Fife Council officials to postpone a five-day road repair project which had been proposed for the height of the tourist season.
Fears had been expressed that the proposed works on the A917 Crail to Barnsmuir road, from July 29 to August 2, could have a devastating impact on trade while disrupting deliveries, buses and general tourism.
Concern had been expressed by Graham Guthrie, owner of the Crail Golf Hotel for 24 years, who called The Courier to say that businesses had been in discussion with Fife Council officials, calling on them to postpone the work.
Fellow business owner Linda Lockhart, of the Bee Hive gift shop, confirmed that the proposed works had now been postponed until the end of August/start of September, following discussions with Fife Council roads officials on Tuesday night.
