A motorcyclist died at the weekend just hours after the launch of a major campaign aimed at cutting road deaths.
The 49-year-old man died after being involved in a collision with a car on the A93 between Blairgowrie and Bridge of Cally on Saturday.
The accident happened at about 4pm near Easter Mause Farm, around two miles north of Rattray.
The motorcyclist had been riding a red Kawasaki south towards Blairgowrie.
Police say the man’s immediate family have been informed.
A spokesman from the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics attended after receiving reports of a crash between a motorbike and a car.
Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance was also called, but the man died at the scene.
Police Scotland said the road was closed for several hours so accident investigation work could take place.
A week-long vulnerable road user initiative launched on July 5, aimed at making roads safer for cyclists, pedestrians, horse riders and motorcyclists.
The campaign comes after a Scottish Government report showed that car and pedestrian casualties have decreased while motorcycle and pedal cycle casualties have increased.
All road users are asked to ensure that they are properly prepared and equipped for whatever activity they plan, including maintenance checks on vehicles and suitable hi-visibility clothing and helmets where appropriate.
To reinforce this message, officers will be patrolling roads and carrying out road checks for the duration of the initiative.
They will also be taking every opportunity to talk to road users to give advice and, where appropriate, enforce legislation with a particular emphasis on the dangers faced by more vulnerable road users.
Anyone who may have witnessed the tragic incident, or has any information, is urged to contact 101.
