A man was detained by police after flats were badly damaged by flooding in a Dundee tower block on Wednesday.
Six flats were deluged in the early afternoon incident at Bonnethill Court, off Hilltown.
The flood began in the unoccupied property at 9D and water cascaded down to the five flats directly below, from 8D to 4D.
The damage was worst at 8D where the occupant, a woman who had lived there for more than 25 years, was too upset to speak.
The occupant of the flat at 7D was out at the time but the door was opened to reveal water pouring through the ceilings of most rooms and the furniture and carpets soaked.
The flats below were also affected.
The fire service and council public works department sent personnel to shut off the water supply and help soak up the deluge, but the volume of water that had flooded down made it clear that the damage will take some time to put right.
A police spokeswoman said they, along with the fire service, attended at Bonnethill Court at 1.50pm.
“A 30-year-old man has been detained in connection with theft,” she said. “Inquiries are continuing.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: “Six flats were affected by water, the worst of which was on the eighth floor. The tenant has been found alternative accommodation until the flat is dried out.
“The incident has been reported to Police Scotland.”
Dundee housing convener John Alexander said there was a limit to what he could say given that the police were investigating the matter.
“I am obviously very sorry for the people whose homes have been affected by this incident,” he said.
“The council will do all it can to help the people who have been affected to get back into their homes and will deal with any other issues as they come up.”
