An Angus man threw a glass tumbler at his stepfather before punching his mother, Arbroath Sheriff Court heard.
They had all been drinking in the house since 6am when Graham Shaun Martin (26), of Lily Wynd, Forfar, took offence at something that was said.
He launched a glass tumbler at his stepfather, leaving him with two head wounds, before punching his mother in the face as she tried to attend to her bloodied husband.
The boozy punch-up in the house was “just another day in the life for them”, according to Martin’s solicitor Nick Markowski.
Martin admitted that on May 12 at St Mary Street, Arbroath, he threw a glass tumbler at his stepfather, causing the tumbler to strike him in the head, all to his injury. He further admitted assaulting his mother by punching her on the head.
Depute fiscal Arlene Shaw said they had all been drinking together and were “considerably under the influence of alcohol”.
She added: “A row started and the accused took offence and began to become aggressive. He was asked to leave by his stepfather and refused to do so.”
He then threw the tumbler at his stepfather and punched his mother when she tried to intervene, Ms Shaw told the court. His mother then managed to get free and left to contact police.
Martin had left by the time they arrived but later handed himself in, saying: “I’ve assaulted my mum and my stepfather.”
Ms Shaw said Martin’s stepfather suffered two lacerations one above the left eye and one on the top of his head.
Mr Markowski said the drinking had started at 6am and it was “not uncommon for it to end violently”.
The solicitor added: “He still speaks to his mum. They are getting on fine. All three are on friendly terms again.”
Sheriff Derek Pyle fined Martin £250 for the assaults.
