The chairman of the Dundee FC Supporters’ Society has thanked the fans for opening the door to investment.
A vote in favour of the proposal to allow the DFCSS shareholding in the club to drop below 50% in order to accept external funding has been announced.
Although just over 18% of those eligible to take part in the ballot did so, there was comfort for the yes camp in the size of the majority, with 619 people giving their approval and only 31 voting no.
In welcoming the result, DFCSS chairman Scott Glenday said: ”My thanks go to those who took the time and effort to vote, and to the Election Management Group who worked long and hard to ensure the result was swiftly returned.
”What we have now is a mandate to move forward and allow the external funding that is on offer to come in to the football club.
”On the field, we are looking no further forward than Saturday’s big game against Ross County. But off it this allows us to look to next season and beyond a position many clubs would dearly love to be in.”
Back to onfield matters, and defender Neil McGregor insists Dundee are happy to be considered underdogs going into the meeting of the First Division’s top two.
Against anyone else in their league, the Dark Blues would be odds-on favourites to win after stringing together six straight victories.
However, such has been County’s dominance that they are expected to triumph at Victoria Park on Saturday.
That doesn’t bother McGregor one bit, however.
”They have had all the plaudits this season and rightly so, given the results they have put together,” he said.
”They are at the top of the league so it is right that we are considered to be the underdogs. But that is fine by us.”
