A Dundee FC-mad family introduced their newest member to the delights of Dens Park at the weekend using a season ticket bought before the youngster was even born.
Eight-month-old Cole Jaffray was 12 weeks’ premature when he was born weighing just 2lb 6oz on August 15 the day the Dark Blues kicked off their league campaign against Raith Rovers with a 2-2 draw.
By that point the child’s grandfather, Ralph Middleton, had already made sure Cole would be able to follow the fortunes of the Dark Blues by getting him a season ticket for Dens.
Ironically Cole’s first match on Saturday came as Dundee faced the same opponents they played on the day he was born and it seems the youngster was a bit of a lucky charm, with the home side being inspired to a 2-0 win.
Cole’s mum Michelle Middleton said, “It’s Cole’s first game of the season and we are going to get a picture of him in his seat.
“My dad went down to get him a season ticket before he was born. The folk in the shop said they weren’t sure if they could do that but dad said he was getting him one.Complications”Cole was actually born on the first day of the season. All the family are Dundee-daft and we just thought that we’d get him down before the season ends.”
Cole’s birth was fraught with complications, with Michelle having to be rushed by ambulance to deliver the baby in Stirling because there was no room at Ninewells.
After 11 days he was transferred back to the Dundee hospital, where he spent his first 10 weeks.
Michelle said, “He has got three small cysts around the brain area but they are checked regularly and are not growing any faster than expected. He is fit and well.”
The family also held a pub bingo night on Thursday in Downfield, where they raised £1400 for the special baby care unit at Ninewells.
