This year’s Angus Ambassador awards finalists have been announced, and include the likes of a county resort and mezzo soprano opera singer.
Judges selected 18 entrants from a much larger field. Nominations were up by 20% on last year and it took the judges and event sponsors 12 hours to decide who should get through to the final.
The overall winners will be announced at a gala award ceremony on November 26.
“The quality and variety of nominations this year were as impressive as ever and demonstrated the outstanding achievements and ambition of the county,” said Angus provost Ruth Leslie Melville.
She congratulated the finalists and said, “Once again a variety of outstanding individuals, groups and businesses have been highlighted across the awards categories.”Finalists:Business ambassador category: Good Natured of Arbroath, Intervention Rentals Ltd from Lunan Bay, and MacKays of Arbroath. Community ambassador: Ian Pert from Edzell, Martin Fair, the Minister of St Andrews Church in Arbroath, and Showcase the Street. Cultural ambassador: Angus Archives, Jazz at Hospitalfield in Arbroath and the Arbroath-born mezzo soprano Karen Cargill, who is to make her US opera debut this year. International ambassador: Angus College, the Royal Montrose Golf Club and the Tayside Special Olympics. Tourism ambassador: Arbroath Seafest Company, the Brucefield Boutique B&B in Arbroath and the Piperdam Golf and Leisure Resort. Youth Ambassador: Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band, 18-year-old tuba player Ross Knight from Carnoustie, and The Gordon School of Dancing in Montrose.
The category winners will then challenge each other for the overall Angus Ambassador title.
Andrea Brymer, from STV news programme North Tonight, will again be master of ceremonies at the awards evening in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel.
