Dundee boss barry Smith has taken yet another enforced fixture change in his stride.
The Dark Blues were due to host Ayr United in a First Division clash at Dens Park on Saturday March 10. However, that game has now been moved to the following Tuesday after the Honest Men reached the last eight of the Scottish Cup.
Ayr will play Hibernian instead, forcing Dundee to kick their heels for yet another weekend.
Last month, Dundee were left idle because of Falkirk’s involvement in the League Cup semi-final against Celtic, while the final weekend in April will also be free as proposed opponents Hamilton Accies are competing in the Alba Challenge Cup final.
However, an unfazed Smith said: ”March is going to be a busy month for us because we have a few games but we’ll look forward to it. Obviously you would prefer to play on a Saturday but midweek games are no hassle.”
Meanwhile, Smith has told his players to ignore Queen of the South’s lowly league position.
He saw the Doonhamers play against Aberdeen in the cup on Tuesday and that reinforced his view that they are capable of much better than their place in the table would suggest.
Gus McPherson’s side ran the Dons close and Smith reckons they have enough quality to ensure they will be dangerous opponents.
”I was down at Palmerston the other night and Queens gave Aberdeen run for their money,” said Smith. ”That shows they are a good side and it’s going to be a tough game.
”We are under no illusions because of their place in the league. It’s always hard down there. They are well-organised and work hard for each other.
”Gus has added good experience to his team with Sam Parkin as well as having guys like John Potter. We know it’s going to be a difficult game but we’re ready to go there and give it a good go.”
