Police have issued a fresh skimming device warning after two incidents at cash machines in Fife in recent days.
Bank customers had their cash cards retained by illegal devices attached to machines in Burntisland on Sunday and Templehall in Kirkcaldy on Monday.
Users are being warned to take particular care when withdrawing money and to check machines carefully before use.
Community Sergeant Paul Thomson, based at Kirkcaldy, said: “This has happened twice this week, in Burntisland on Sunday and in Templehall on Monday, when people have lost money due to these card skimming devices being used.
“As soon as the customer goes to the cash machine operator to report their card has been retained, sometimes just a few steps away, the thief removes the device, takes the card and using the data from the skimming device withdraws money from the same, or a nearby cash dispenser.
“I would urge anyone using one of these machines to examine it very carefully before use, and if they have any suspicions, not to use it and report it to their bank. Even if they have no suspicions, all users should make sure they are not being watched while they put in their PIN number and to shield their fingers as they type in their PIN code.”
Similar warnings were issued last month when devices were found on cash machines in north Fife.
Police are asking anyone who has any information about the use of the devices to contact them on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
