Players were queueing up at the Dens Park door to sign on for Dundee’s tilt at the First Division title.
Ryan Conroy, Kevin McBride, Iain Davidson, Jamie Reid and James Thomson all put put pen to paper on fresh contracts on Friday.
The news was welcomed by chief executive Scot Gardiner, who claimed the possibility of investment in the Dark Blues from Texan group Keyes Capital played a part in securing the bumper bundle of new deals.
Gardiner said: “As far as I am concerned it has been a very busy and productive day and it was important for us to make sure that most of the first team squad was secured before pre-season training starts on Monday.
“The manager believes that preparation is vital for any successful team and we have worked together closely to get the boys signed up and back at Dens.
“We both believe that we are shaping up nicely. The players are very excited about potential new investment coming in and what that could do for the club.”
Meanwhile, the odds appear to be creeping in favour of the Keyes proposal being accepted.
The game of legal tennis currently sees the ball in the court of the Dundee FC Supporters’ Society.
Their lawyers are studying the reponse to the society’s own heads of terms, which was delivered earlier this week from the consortium camp comprising Tim Keyes and John Nelms, as well as former Dundee directors Bill Colvin, Steve Martin and Ian Crighton.
The word coming through is that compromise can be reached and that this long-running saga may finally be nearing its end game.
