A man who spray painted his signature “tags” on a host of road signs in Perthshire has been admonished at Perth Sheriff Court.
The court heard that Daniel Carlin, 22, of Kempsthorn Crescent, Glasgow, had paid a total of £4,206.85 in compensation to road operators Bear Scotland for the damage caused.
Carlin first appeared in court on the charge in June 2010 when he admitted that between May 14 and 15 2010 he wilfully and recklessly spray painted road signs on the A9 Dunblane to Perth road.
The court had previously heard how Carlin had travelled from Glasgow to meet friends at Gleneagles Railway Station but decided to pass the time by carrying out the vandalism.
Police had seen the graffiti at around midnight. Carlin had spray painted Byro and Blah, which the officers found were two of his tags. The court had heard that the road signs had to be replaced by Bear Scotland at a cost of £4,206.85.
Solicitor Rosie Scott, defending, had said that her client was a graffiti artist who had earned money from his work, including some from galleries.
Sheriff Robert McCreadie, who had previously described the incident as “wanton destruction,” told Carlin: “I hope you will have learnt your lesson about this and its consequences to the taxpayer.”
