An Arbroath man admitted a series of shoplifting offences at the town’s sheriff court.
James Pow, 23, of Great Michael Road, admitted that on Saturday, on two occasions, he stole alcohol from the Co-Operative on Arbirlot Road.
He also admitted stealing a quantity of air fresheners from Morrisons supermarket in Hume Street on Saturday. He committed the offences having already been placed on bail by Arbroath Sheriff Court.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond advised that Pow’s first theft from the Co-Op was a £20 bottle of alcohol which was not recovered.
On the second occasion he stole from the store there was also no recovery of the £53.10 worth of alcohol as he fell and broke the bottles on his way out of the shop. There was recovery of the £20-worth of air fresheners.
Defence agent Nick Markowski said his client was on methadone.
He said: “It appears he was drinking on Friday night and had been misusing the medication prescribed. He has no recollection of Saturday’s events.”
Sheriff Alison Stirling deferred sentence until July 16 for background reports. She granted bail with the condition that Pow not enter the Co-Op or Morrisons in Arbroath.
