Graffiti vandals’ efforts on show at play area launch

Graffiti marred the official opening of a newly-refurbished Dundee play area.
The Pitairlie Road multi-use games area (MUGA) was reopened with revamped fencing but the back board of the basketball court had already fallen victim to vandals’ spray paint.
Environment convener Craig Melville was at Tuesday’s official opening and said he will make sure the graffiti is removed “as a matter of urgency”.
He said: “I have spoken to the environment department and the graffiti will be removed.
“It always has been a well-used facility and what I would ask is that people respect the area and the money that has been put into it by looking after the facilities.”
The refurbishment included higher boundary fencing, removal of low walls to tidy up the space and to provide open views across the site.
The work to improve the facilities was the joint project of the local authority and the community regeneration forum.
