Vandals return to target Kirkcaldy peace gardens By The Courier Reporter June 27 2013, 11:38am June 27 2013, 11:38am Share Vandals return to target Kirkcaldy peace gardens Share via Facebook Twitter Linkedin Whatsapp Messenger Email Post link https://wpcluster.dctdigital.com/thecourier/news/fife/62133/vandals-return-to-target-kirkcaldy-peace-gardens/ Copy Link Vandals have again desecrated Kirkcaldy’s peace gardens, causing around £1,000 of damage. Police confirmed that between 4pm on June 20 and 8.15am on June 21, eight cherry trees, worth £100 each, were destroyed. More nearby trees were pulled out at the weekend. Last year, vandals etched pornographic images into a peace pole only a day after it was unveiled in a moving ceremony. Louts are believed to have struck what is meant to be a peaceful and contemplative part of Beveridge Park. Scott Clelland, of Fife Council, said: “I am saddened to report that there has been extensive vandalism at the interfaith garden.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police. The Kirkcaldy project cost around £17,000 to complete. A stone peace pole, which has the phrase “May Peace Prevail On Earth” etched into it in four languages, is at the centre of the garden. English, Polish, Urdu and Arabic reflect the diversity and multiculturalism that exists in the region.
