A Dutch driver has been banned from the UK’s roads after admitting driving dangerously on the A9.
Ferdinandus van Tatenhove entered a guilty plea at Perth Sheriff Court. Van Tatenhove was seen driving erratically as he journeyed south in his Transit van from Inverness to Perth on Monday morning.
At the Killicrankie bypass he was seen veering across the road, travelling too close to the vehicle in front and attempting to make an overtaking manoeuvre which caused other vehicles to swerve and brake to avoid a collision.
Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said van Tatenhove, of Purmerend, Holland, had been so close to the car in front, a Vauxhall Corsa, that the driver could not see the number plate in her rear-view mirror.
Van Tatenhove then tried to overtake into the face of oncoming traffic on a single-carriageway section of the road, causing both the Corsa and the other vehicle to slam on their brakes.
He added that the Dutchman’s actions had left the occupants of the Corsa in a state of shock.
Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said that the 49-year-old recognised that his driving fell below an acceptable standard and that he regretted his actions on the road.
Sheriff Linda Smith disqualified Van Tatenhove for 12 months and ordered him to sit an extended driving test before he can drive again on UK roads. She also fined him £460.
