Memories of niece spur Hazel’s efforts to raise £4,000

A Tayside woman whose charity challenge was spurred on by memories of her brave niece has raised more than £4,000 for a holiday lodge project.
The scenic challenge of the Lochaber Marathon was the first test over the distance for Broughty Ferry mum Hazel Taylor. The project aims to create a holiday lodge for young Tayside cancer sufferers and their families.
Hazel’s niece, Laura Turnbull, lost her battle against leukaemia six years ago at the age of 11 and precious memories of a family break in Highland Perthshire encouraged the NHS Tayside information analyst to take on the marathon in aid of the TCCL (Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia) Lodge project.
Since 1994 TCCL has helped youngsters and their families in a variety of ways, and a substantial amount of money has already been gathered for the lodge project, as the search for a suitable site for the facility continues.
The TCCL Lodge project was formally launched in May 2011 and the charity hopes the facility can be provided by 2015, with some £500,000 required to build and run the property for five years.
