Crown seeking over £80,000 proceeds of crime cash from Fife drug dealer

The Crown is seeking proceeds amounting to more than £80,000 from a Fife man previously convicted of drug dealing.

David Ford, 50, of Manse Road, Crossgates, was sentenced to 30 months at Perth Sheriff Court in January after being found with £21,000 of cannabis beneath the passenger seat of his car on February 10 2011 in Perth city centre.

On Monday, Blair Speed, senior depute fiscal for the proceeds of crime unit, told the court the Crown had “erroneously” faxed a wrong diet to Ford’s legal team and asked for a further hearing into the matter.

He told the court the Crown is seeking the money under the Proceeds of Crime Act but said both parties would be looking for a future date regarding the matter.

“The proceeds of crime unit are a small, specialist team that serves the country, so there are difficulties involved,” he said.

Solicitor Alisdair MacLeod, defending, said he was looking into the amount of inheritance passed from Ford’s mother to his client.

The total proceeds being sought is £80,180.56.

Sheriff Michael Fletcher agreed to a pre-proof hearing on October 21.
