A jockey who sustained life threatening head injuries after falling from his horse at Perth Racecourse has undergone surgery.
Brian Toomey has been in intensive care at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee since Thursday, where he remains in an induced coma.
The 24-year-old is described as being in a stable condition following the surgery to reduce swelling and pressure on his brain.
It is now anticipated that he will be kept sedated for the next few days to allow his progress to be monitored.
Mr Toomey’s mother, sister and girlfriend have been at his bedside since he was admitted.
A spokesperson from the Injured Jockeys Fund said: “Brian’s parents Marian and Johnny, brother Sean, sister Aine and his aunt Margaret would like to thank all family and friends for their huge support.
“Mrs Toomey would also particularly like to thank Dr Michael Turner for travelling up to Dundee on Saturday and the staff at Ninewells Hospital for their fantastic round-the-clock care.”
The accident happened on Thursday during the Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.
