An Angus town united in mourning at the weekend as it said goodbye to one of its long-serving emergency services personnel.
Local fire service crewmen formed a guard of honour at St Andrew’s Parish Church in Kirriemuir in tribute to watch manager Chic Stewart, who died suddenly but peacefully last week.
Mr Stewart died at the Isla Unit in Whitehills Hospital after a short illness.
David Stapley, the local senior officer for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, passed on his condolences to Mr Stewart’s family.
He wrote: “My thoughts today are with the family of Chic Stewart, a serving watch manager from Kirriemuir.
“A big loss to everyone and the community.”
The local risk manager for Dundee West, Mark Crush, tweeted: “Paid our final respects to our colleagueChic Stewart today. Great show of support for the family. Well done to his RDS (Retained Duty System) team.”
Mr Stewart is survived by his wife Ann, children Carol, Lynne and Alan, grandchildren Kyle, Dara and Wyatt, and a large extended family.
