Growing demand for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) at certain times of the day has prompted a change in operating hours for the service.
Flying 10 hours a day since launching at the end of May, the helicopter ambulance has already flown more than 65 missions from its base at Perth Airport.
The pattern of call-outs reveals that the vast majority of deployments are happening later in the day.
So the charity has reacted by moving the working day forward two hours.
The new 10am to 8pm operational day was introduced at the weekend with the support of both the Scottish Ambulance Service and Bond Air Services SCAA’s operational partners.
“We always intended to review working hours after our first three months of operations,” said SCAA chief executive Gavin Davey.”
As SCAA only operates during daylight hours, Mr Davey explained that the hours would be pushed back gradually again as the evenings darken later in the year.
