A 47-year-old man caught speeding at over 100 miles per hour on the A92 in Angus has been banned for six months and fined £350.
Defence agent Billy Rennie had appealed for leniency after arguing that Alastair Horsburgh’s job would be on the line if he lost his licence.
Horsburgh, who has addresses in Arbroath and Sheffield, admitted driving his Honda motorbike at excess speed on the 70mph A92 at Salmond’s Muir, near Arbroath, on May 14. Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said Horsburgh was caught by police officers who were carrying out a laser speed check on the route.
Mr Rennie said his client has a home in Sheffield but has been staying with his parents, who suffer from various health problems, in Arbroath.
He said Horsburgh’s employers were allowing him to work in the North East while he looks after them but warned he could lose his job if he was given a driving ban.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said the level of speed involved had left him with no option but to impose a ban.
