An Angus man who “lost the plot” and went on a drunken rampage outside a takeaway has been told to save up and pay for the damage.
Garry Lee Gray, 26, of Newton Avenue, Arbroath, smashed windows at Pie Bob’s in the town before jumping on a police car, smashing the windscreen and denting the roof.
He caused more than £1,000-worth of damage after the “red mist descended” because he thought a woman working at the shop was responsible for his parents’ marriage break-up.
Gray admitted throwing a chair along the side of a car park on June 16 and approaching a man and a woman in a threatening and aggressive manner.
He also admitted assaulting a man, threatening to damage property and threatening to burn down Pie Bob’s.
The charges also included resisting arrest by lashing out at two PCs with his arms and legs and struggling violently.
Sheriff Peter Paterson deferred sentence on Tuesday for Gray to be of good behaviour and save towards compensation.
Gray was granted bail with a curfew condition.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said the value of the damage to Pie Bob’s was £800 and the police car repair bill was £234.
She said Gray told staff: “If you work here you better get out of the way I’m putting your windows in.”
When police approached Gray after his shop rampage, he stood in front of the vehicle before jumping on the bonnet and smashing the windscreen.
He then jumped up and down on the roof and refused to get down before he was pulled down by a police officer.
Defence agent Ian Flynn said: “He lost the plot and was basically attacking the shop.
“He is not normally a violent person and he knows he was out of order.
“He knows he has to repay the damage.”
