Lifeguard saves toddler in Dundee’s new swimming pool

A lifeguard saved a toddler who was spotted face-down in the water at the new Olympia swimming pool.
The boy was rescued from the shallow children’s pool after becoming trapped in the water.
Onlookers praised the actions of the lifeguard, claiming he averted a potential tragedy.
“The water there was really shallow, but because he was so young he could have easily drowned without a doubt,” said Michael Pearson, who witnessed the rescue.
“I was there with my two boys in the children’s pool and there was a young boy about two years old there with his family.
“I was looking to my kids then saw out of the corner of my eye as the lifeguard jumped in the pool in a split-second and grabbed him because he was lying face-down.
“He was wearing a float jacket so he was quite stuck because he couldn’t turn over.
“He was in trouble and there was nobody near him to help. The lifeguard was a bit of a hero in my opinion,” he added.
A spokesman for Leisure and Culture Dundee said: “A trained lifeguard at Olympia dealt with a routine incident in the pool this week.
“Everyone involved is safe and well. As with all such incidents, it has been recorded in the appropriate way.”
