Perth’s floral credentials were on the line as Britain in Bloom judges gathered in the town.
The team of adjudicators spent three hours examining the Fair City.
News the judges were to visit on Friday 13 was initially met with groans by organisers, but the sun made a rare appearance, helping ensure Perth was shown in the best possible light.
Carrying out the inspection were Roger Burnett, chairman of the Britain in Bloom judging panel, and Jon Wheatley, of the Royal Horticultural Society.
As well as visiting several displays, they spent time listening to presentations and chatting to members of the community who contributed to the Perth entry.
Euna Scott, chairwoman of the Beautiful Perth committee, said, “It has been a challenging year in many ways for Perth, not least of all due to the adverse weather.
“We had a very full three-hour programme for the judges and we hope they were impressed.”
At the end of the tour the judges were met by Provost John Hulbert, who took the opportunity to highlight some of the activities and celebrations taking place to mark Perth 800.
Other Britain in Bloom finalists in the large town/small city category are Bury St Edmunds, Coleraine, Colywn Bay and Durham.
Following their visit to Perth the judging team was whisked off to scrutinise Muthill, an entrant in the small village category.
Earlier in the week, Pitlochry was judged in the champion of champions category and Comrie in the large village section.
There are only nine finalists from throughout Scotland to reach the standards required for the “Britain in Bloom” finals an impressive total of four coming from the Perth and Kinross area.
The other five are Falkland, Aberdeen, North Berwick, Cupar and Dyce.
The results will be announced on September 29 at an award ceremony hosted by Birmingham City Council.
