Campaigners are urging locals to get together with friends, family or work colleagues to raise money for Cancer Research UK by entering this year’s Relay For Life.
Relay For Life is a unique celebration of life and hope which unites communities to help beat cancer.
Teams of all ages, levels of fitness and from all walks of life are invited to take part at Arbroath Cricket Club on Saturday, September 25. This year’s event will change format and run from 11am to 11pm.
Arbroath Relay for Life volunteer Phil Ogilvie said, “Relay For Life is a great way to spend time with your friends, family and colleagues while raising money for a truly worthwhile cause.
“Participants are asked to raise as much money as possible in the months leading up to the event through a wide range of fund-raising activities and securing donations from friends, families and colleagues.
“During the event itself, team members take it in turns to walk round a track while everyone else enjoys a wide range of entertainment on offer.
“Cancer survivors are our guests of honour and open the event by undertaking the first lap. We would love you to register and join us for the event.”
As dusk falls, the atmosphere quietens as the Candle of Hope ceremony begins.
This is the most poignant part of Relay For Life when Candle of Hope bags decorated with touching messages in memory or in celebration of loved ones are filled with sand and lit up with candles around the Cricket Ground.
Phil adds that this is the fifth time Relay For Life has taken place in Arbroath and for anyone who would like to enter a team or would like more information, an open night will be held on Friday May 6 at 7pm in Arbroath Cricket Club. For more information on how to enter Relay For Life, visit www.arbroath-relayforlife.co.uk, or call 08716 412602.
