Asda applies to open fuel filling station at new Arbroath store

A petrol price war could break out in Arbroath after Asda applied for planning permission for a filling station.
Asda is seeking permission for a two-pump fully automated station at Westway Retail Park in the town.
Asda opened a new superstore at the retail park in November and will be joined in April by DIY giant B&Q, which is taking over the former Focus unit.
The matter has yet to be considered by Angus Council but it could mean more competition for petrol and diesel prices in the town.
An Asda spokeswoman confirmed the planning application has been lodged.
She added: ”The AA confirms when there is an Asda petrol station in town, everyone else lowers their prices. That’s because we are the only petrol retailer to have a national price cap guaranteeing a fair fuel price for customers.”
